Skymark selects RECARO economy class seats

Japanese carrier impressed by comfort, connectivity, light weight of BL3530

SCHWAEBISCH HALL, Germany / TOKYO, Japan – Skymark Airlines is equipping three Boeing 737-800 aircraft each with 177 BL3530 short-haul seats from RECARO Aircraft Seating. In total, over 500 RECARO seats will be installed. The first shipset delivered in June of 2018 and will fly beginning in August.

“Comfort, connectivity, and light weight define the BL3530,” says Skymark Airlines President and Chief Executive Officer, Masahiko Ichie. “The seats add improved living space and combine RECARO’s modern design style with superior production quality. We are looking forward to flying this wonderful seat solution.”

Headquartered at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan, Skymark Airlines was founded in 1996 as an independent domestic airline. Today, it has a fleet of 27 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and flies to 11 destinations within Japan. The majority of Skymark’s existing fleet is equipped with RECARO seats.

With a high literature pocket, tablet PC holder, USB power supply, the lightweight BL3530 weighs just over ten kilograms and includes multiple stowage options for smaller personal items. The single aisle economy class BL3530 has sold more than 400,000 seats since introduction. The light weight of the seat helps Skymark improve fuel costs, making the cost of traveling more affordable for Skymark passengers.

“The BL3530 incorporates contemporary style elements as well as places an emphasis on simplified maintenance and minimized life cycle costs,” says Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of RECARO Aircraft Seating. “Not only do the seats provide more space for the passengers, they will fly longer and Skymark will save money in the long-term.”
