SAS orders Recaro BL3520 seats

Recaro Aircraft Seating secures major order

Schwaebisch Hall, Germany. Swedish carrier SAS Scandinavian Airlines is banking on the seat comfort of Recaro Aircraft Seating. The airline has ordered 1.484 economy class seats from the Schwaebisch Hall-based manufacturer. The first batch is to be delivered in early 2012.

SAS has ordered Recaro BL3520 economy class seats in the airline’s design for installation in its Boeing B737-800 short-haul fleet. Delivery of the first seats is planned for early 2012. After orders from the Lufthansa Group, SAS is the latest Star Alliance member to choose this market-acclaimed Recaro seat.

“We are pleased to welcome SAS as a BL3520 customer,” says Axel Kahsnitz, the CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating. “The airline chose our latest economy class seat, which sets the standard for short-range flights in terms of both design and comfort.”

SAS was particularly convinced by the significantly lighter construction as well as the extra space it gives passengers: Recaro Aircraft Seating managed to significantly reduce the weight of the BL3520 seat unit by three kilograms – making it about 30 percent lighter than comparable models. Thus the BL3520 helps airlines to lower costs by reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Furthermore the BL3520 offers passengers more living space: This is possible thanks to a leaner, space-saving backrest combined with patented Recaro solutions including a higher literature pocket. Instead of being placed in the passenger’s knee area, it is located above the tray table which ensures an outstanding level of passenger comfort. Airlines can install additional rows of seats and still offer more legroom, which has a positive effect on their profit.
