Recaro set to own comfort in economy class with all its seats

Every third economy class passenger travels in a Recaro seat

Schwaebisch Hall, Germany, 22 August 2019 – As the global leader in economy class seating, one out of three passengers traveling in that segment, sits in a Recaro seat. No wonder the premium aircraft seat manufacturer places high emphasize on passenger comfort throughout the journey. With innovations and patents in place for nearly every element of economy – from the literature pocket to the head rest – and a Crystal Cabin Award for passenger comfort, Recaro pretty much owns comfort in economy class.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) tourism is on the rise. In 2018 there were a record 1.4bn international tourist arrivals, a rise of six percent compared to 2017. Of course not all of them fly to their holiday destination. However, those who do and choose to travel in economy class, have a 30% chance of being able to enjoy the comfort of a Recaro seat.

With its vision to be driving comfort in the sky, Recaro is dedicated to deliver ultimate passenger comfort with all its seats. To enhance sleeping comfort in economy class, Recaro created a range of three comfort elements for long-haul seating, designed to enable better body posture, a better ability to change sleeping positions, and a reduction of pressure points:

1. The Abrazo Headrest provides additional side support to the head. Passengers can choose to flip down armrest-like supports on each side of the seat. The height of the headrest can also be adjusted to fit taller as well as shorter passengers.

2. The Extended Seat Bottom increases the size of seating surface to better support upper and parts of lower legs and reduces pressure points

3. Last but not least, the Flip Cushion helps to support the lower lumbar area in a cradle or sleeping position.

For these sleeping comfort features Recaro won a Crystal Cabin Award earlier this year: A massive proof point to the company’s success in this area.

But there is more. Constantly investing in innovation, Recaro can also call itself a first mover when it comes to other elements aimed at increasing passenger comfort. The high literature pocket, significantly increasing passenger living space, was first developed and hence patented by Recaro. Other innovations include the unique 6-way headrest with neck support and a table with an integrated tablet holder to enable passengers to comfortably use their own devices.

“Our vision “driving comfort in the sky” is truly at the center of our innovations. Recaro combines premium comfort, superior quality and extreme lightweight design in all its seats and we will continue to invest in further raising the bar on all three,” says Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder of Recaro.
