Recaro seat presented as an art object in London
Exemplary design: CL3610 for Qantas A380
Passengers in the Qantas wide-body A380 aircraft get to sit on a genuine work of art: The Recaro Comfort Line 3610 has been included as an exemplary design object in the Design Real exhibition. The exhibition features groundbreaking, massproduced products that have appeared on the market over the past ten years and have a practical function in everyday life. Curator Konstantin Grcic presents a wide spectrum of objects by leading international designers and manufacturers, ranging from furniture and household products to technical and industrial innovations.
"The fact that our seat is on display in the gallery emphasizes our design and innovation expertise," says Recaro Aircraft Seating CEO, Axel Kahsnitz. "This once again confirms our strategy of using ergonomics and design to consciously differentiate ourselves from competitors."
The design of the CL3610 has not only placed the seat in an art gallery. Last year, the project partners were honored with the 2009 Australian International Design Award of the Year, the nation's most coveted design prize. The international panel of judges was impressed by the seat's functional, space-saving design, comfort, and the use of CFRP and other lightweight materials.
Recaro started supplying the first seats for the Qantas Airways A380 fleet in May 2008. Equipped with 332 CL3610 seats in economy class and four CL3610 Crew Rest seats, the fleet's first aircraft went into service in October 2008.
