Recaro CL3710 seat takes off for the first time

Seating innovation from Recaro Aircraft Seating provides exceptional comfort on long-haul flights

Schwaebisch Hall, Germany. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines relies on the comfort of Recaro Aircraft Seating: The airline has ordered more than 6,000 CL3710 seats for the Economy Class and Economy Class Comfort. The first aircraft with the new Recaro long-haul seat on board has taken off in November 2014.

“We are proud that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has chosen our seating innovation CL3710. The airline is deploying the new seat on board its fleet as launch customer,” explains Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating. The airline has ordered a total of 6,100 CL3710 seats – with the option of equipping additional aircraft. The seats will be successively installed in five new Boeing 777-300 aircraft. In addition, a total of 15 Boeing 777-200 aircraft of the existing fleet will be retrofitted with the CL3710. The seat will be used both in Economy Class as well as in Economy Class Comfort, where passengers can enjoy a wider seat pitch of 35 inches.

“With the CL3710, which brings together generous living space and ergonomic comfort with an extraordinarily light weight, we have once again set the standard for long-haul flights in the economy class," says Dr. Mark Hiller. The seat provides passengers with maximum comfort. Recaro’s entire expertise in ergonomics has flowed into the development of the seat. As part of the product development, 18 patent applications were filed. One of the new features is the unique, ergonomic, six-way adjustable headrest with an extremely wide height adjustment range to easily accommodate passengers of different heights. It also provides optimized neck support that can be tipped horizontally.

The gain in space for passengers is particularly impressive: The CL3710 offers maximum knee and legroom. The armrests on the center seat can be folded up so that they are flush with the backrest, even if the backrest has been put into the reclined position. The modularity of the seat is another convincing feature: Thanks to standardized interfaces, the seat can be optimally adjusted to suit customer requirements.

With less than 12 kilograms, the Recaro CL3710 is the lightest product in its class. By trofitting the aircraft with this seat, weight savings of up to 1,000 kilograms per aircraft can be achieved – in this way the CL3710 contributes significantly to the sustainability and efficiency of an airline.
