Recaro CL3710 receives “iF Design Award 2015”

Award for outstanding product design

The Recaro design team was pleased to receive the „Focus Gold“ award.

Schwaebisch Hall, Germany. Due to the outstanding design of the economy class seat CL3710, Recaro Aircraft Seating has been awarded the “iF Design Award 2015.” The official award ceremony with guests from the international design community, the media, business, and politics will take place at BMW World in Munich on February 27, 2015. From June 18 to September 20, 2015, the long-haul seat will also be featured in the “iF design exhibition” in Hamburg.

“For more than 60 years, the ‘iF Design Award’ has been an internationally recognized trademark when it comes to particularly successful design. This year 4,783 entries from 2,102 participants from 53 countries competed for the award – we are very proud that our CL3710 stands out among the large number of submissions,” says Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating.

The Recaro CL3710 convinced the international panel of experts in the product category “Automobiles/Vehicles/Bikes.” “The seat was able to score with its unique combination of ergonomic comfort, space savings, and light weight, with which it has set new standards on long-haul flights in the economy class,” adds Mark Hiller. Passengers enjoy maximum comfort in this seat: Recaro’s entire expertise in ergonomics was incorporated into the CL3710. As part of the product development, 18 patent applications were filed. For example, the ergonomic headrest is new, and it is unique in its combination of many features: It can be adjusted in six different ways, allowing it to be optimized to suit passengers of different sizes. It also provides optimized neck support that can be tipped horizontally.

At less than twelve kilograms, the CL3710 is also the lightest product in its class. By retrofitting aircraft with this Recaro seat, weight savings of up to 1,000 kilograms per aeroplane can be achieved. In this way the CL3710 contributes significantly to the sustainability and efficiency of an airline.

Numerous Recaro customers have already been convinced by the qualities of the seat and have ordered the CL3710 for their long-haul aircraft: As the first airline to do so, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines put the seat into operation at the end of 2014. “But not only above the clouds can you convince yourself of the excellent Recaro design,” adds Hiller. “We are very pleased that from June 18 to September 20, 2015, the CL3710 will also be presented in the ‘iF design exhibition’ in Hamburg, which deals with outstanding product, communication, and packaging design from around the world.
