Recaro Aircraft Seating receives “German Design Award"

The business class seat CL6710 convinced the jury of the “German Design Award” through its outstanding design: In the category “Transportation and Public Design,” Recaro Aircraft Seating is thus receiving the honor of “Special Mention.” This award honors products whose design exhibit particularly noteworthy solutions. “We are very pleased that we were able to convince the high-profile panel of experts from the ‘German Design Council’ of our highlight product CL6710,” said Dr. Mark Hiller, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating, on the occasion of the announcement of the winners on October 27, 2014. “The award reflects the successful path that our company has followed in the past years.”

With the establishment of the design department nearly 20 years ago, Recaro Aircraft Seating launched a multi-year process in which the areas of design, ergonomics, prototyping, and engineering were continuously built up. Since then, design has played a key role in product development at Recaro Aircraft Seating. Whereas the priority of the company used to be fulfilling customers’ wishes, today the customers choose the products of the aircraft seat supplier because they associate the Recaro brand with design and ergonomic comfort, in addition to quality and light weight.

Standards in terms of design, comfort, and weight have also been set by the newest product of Recaro Aircraft Seating: The CL6710, which was first presented in 2014 at the industry trade show Aircraft Interiors Expo, is a business class seat which can be extended into a 180-degree flat bed. It combines high comfort with the possibility of a high density cabin. It has excellent living space, direct aisle access, and a variety of stowage opportunities. Furthermore, it features low weight without compromising passenger comfort. For the design of the business class seat, Recaro was inspired by contemporary interior design in hotels, clubs, and lounges. Exclusive materials such as leather and fabric seat covers, clear lines, and contours emphasize the visual comfort and the premium quality of the product. “This combination of different properties in a seat make the CL6710 for the business class so unique,” explained Hiller.
