Lufthansa’s B747-8 Intercontinental takes off with Recaro seats on board

Major Lufthansa order for Recaro Aircraft Seating

Schwaebisch Hall/Frankfurt, Germany. On May 2, 2012, Lufthansa took delivery of its first Boeing B747-8 Intercontinental aircraft in Frankfurt. On board are economy class seats from Recaro Aircraft Seating. The aircraft seat supplier is providing more than 5,000 Comfort Line 3520 seats to equip Lufthansa’s new B747-8 Intercontinental aircraft, as well as additional 5,000 seats for retrofitting its existing B747-400 fleet.

At a ceremony in Frankfurt on May 2, 2012 attended by the executive board of Lufthansa and a delegation from Recaro Aircraft Seating as well as numerous journalists, the airline took delivery of its first Boeing B747-8 Intercontinental. Measuring 76.3 meters in length, the new jumbo jet is the world’s longest passenger plane. “We congratulate Lufthansa on receiving this innovative generation of aircraft,” said Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro Aircraft Seating, on the occasion of this event. “It is a great honor for us at Recaro Aircraft Seating to have our highly innovative economy class product on board these planes.”

The Recaro Comfort Line 3520 seats will be installed in a total of 20 Lufthansa B747-8 Intercontinental. Specially designed to meet the airline’s requirements, this seat model offers passengers a high degree of comfort on long-haul flights. In addition, Recaro Aircraft Seating is equipping 19 B747-400 aircraft in the current Lufthansa fleet with the same seat type. Overall, Germany’s flagship carrier has ordered more than 10,000 seats to equip the new arrivals and to retrofit existing ones. Deliveries of the seats began already in 2010.
