RECARO Aircraft Seating has significantly reduced the weight of the SL3510 economy class seat compared to other aircraft seats. In the interior of the seat, instead of the usual foams, an innovative netting material forms the core of the backrest. As a result, the thickness of the foams can be reduced – and the backrest is much lighter.

Weight savings were achieved without sacrificing quality, design or passenger comfort. Our developers worked on the ergonomic features of the seat in a targeted way. The backrest angle is predefined at 15 degrees for a relaxed sitting position. The netting material also adapts ideally to the passenger’s spine. Even if the seat rows are positioned more closely to each other, airlines can offer their passengers more space with the SL3510 – since the netting material ensures that the backrest occupies less space and the distance to the person to the back is correspondingly larger.

Another advantage of the product is its ease of maintenance, which has been achieved by the reduction of components.

The SL3510’s weight-optimized concept was honored with the Crystal Cabin Award 2009 in the “Industrial Design/Interior Concept” category.
